Wistow does the quadruple!
In a perfect summer of tennis with just a single rain delay all season, Wistow’s doubles teams had a year for the history books in 2025, winning all four of the divisions they competed in. The dream campaign was wrapped up by a final men’s match at the weekend with a convincing 86-22 win against Bishopthorpe.
Wistow’s fantastic ladies team had a flawless season, not losing a single one of their 14 matches in 2025. Their tally of 1,092 games made them the most successful team in all 7 divisions! The team move up to Division 2 next year with renewed confidence.
Following their title winning campaign last year, Wistow’s first mixed team had another stellar season, at one point going on an incredible 20 match unbeaten streak! They once again sealed the top spot in the York District league in 2025, finishing victorious in div 5 despite stiff competition from David Lloyd.
The club’s second mixed team also had a season to remember, winning 13 of 14 matches, with just one loss to old rivals Selby. After last year’s agonising title loss by just a single game, the second team banished their demons and emerged victorious. They move up a division next year, alongside perennial rivals Selby.
Finally, the pressure was on the men’s team to join the party. After a tight season-long battle with York, navigating injuries, and at one point calling upon the club’s oldest member to lend a hand. Wistow’s men’s team finished at the top of the table in 2025, taking home the trophy in their very first season.
A massive thanks goes out to all of our members who played a part in this incredible season. With special thanks to our team captains Rachel Smith (ladies), Lucy Falkingham (Mixed 1), Alice Falkingham (Mixed 2), and Nick Clemishaw (Mens) for leading the teams to victory.
